The creator of the Cthulhu Mythos...
...and the Necronomicon...
...who defined supernatural horror in literature...
H.P. Lovecraft
Considered the father
of the horror story, H.P. Lovecraft created an incredible matrix of pagan deities and
brought them into the worlds of imagination and horror. He brought the dark evils with the
mind's imagination and gave them a name. He took unimaginable horrors and put them
into our world.
And he scared the hell out of us.
The Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft is a series that explores the
worlds that Lovecraft created, worlds that continue to fear and provide entertainment all
over the planet. Talk to the great masters of horror...Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and
others. They will all pay homage to the Master, H.P. Lovecraft.
Brief description: A series of stories adapting and
incorporating the elements of stories created by H.P. Lovecraft.
Key Elements: Horror at its very core. Lovecraft is considered the father
of horror. Although Poe is considered the founder of the modern horror short story,
it was Lovecraft who defined the genre that continues today. Demons, monsters, and
unspeakable evil were all part of Lovecraft's creations.
Association: Many of the elements of X-Files were taken from Lovecraft as were
the monsters from series such as Kolchak the Night Stalker.
Format: Caliber adapted some of Lovecraft's classic short stories and working to
launch a Cthullu series as well. Ten issues were released to favorable reviews.
Additional: The Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft has enormous potential. Working
best as a television series, each story could stand alone as self contained horror
mini-movies. However, Lovecraft's stories deal with many of the same themes and the
use of supporting characters weaving through out the stories would give an anchor.
